I too have been seeking to verify a copy with the original wording. I cannot show that edition to someone else and expect it to be compelling enough evidence to convince them. How good of a job did they do burning copies in the 19th century to erase history?
Good question. Is that what the British were burning in War of 1812? Their attack was clearly targeting founding documents and pending amendments, imo.
I’m convinced the original 13th was viewed as an act of class warfare by the old world nobility. Look into the marital history of Jerome Bonaparte and his descendents for the underlying social context behind the amendment. Its not surprising that war ensued with the end result being everyone receiving the classification of labor producing livestock
