I also like to decorate walls with some sharp-edged items. Long ones. they can be grabbed at a moments notice against zombies trying to gain access to one's valuable food stores.
The other important thing to do is to move to a community that is small enough to be manageable in terms of crime, and large enough to have a baker, a butcher and a candlestick maker, as the saying goes. For example, during the lockdowns, the NZ government decided that butchers were not essential. They claimed meat could be bought at supermarkets. So Butchers were arbitrarily closed. Well it turned out, that supermarkets could not keep up with the demand. A lot of people go to the local butcher in NZ, not only because the meat is just better there. They like dealing with the personal service. Our butcher immediately set up on-line orders, and personally delivered to homes. We made sure to fill our freezer to support him. We got a friendly smile, and a comment about a flowering tree in the garden.
The community you move to will support each other. I do not recommend that anyone moves to bum0fuck nowhere. You will become an isolated target. That's for out of control feds (Think Ruby Ridge, or WACO), and zombie hordes, stealing food or livestock.
Always try to live in small communities where people know each other and buy local products— I’ve always done this because I can’t afford to live the metropolitan life or ever cared to - plus if shtf ever I know wild country with shelter and where the water is - a tank of gas away but my homestead here is great ..until the electricity goes out..
That's my concern atm. Filling water jugs as much as I can, fortifying the water reserves with colloidal silver and trace amounts of iodine so that we won't get sick with bacteria that could be formed with stagnant water. Any other ideas?
Dam straight. I think a community is a make or break. My prior one was sh1t.
My current one. Bloody amazing.
Everyone knew about a fire on my block before me ....while i was on the block!
Full of legends who help each other out
Changing deadbolts on the doors so they are bump proof and pick proof. Also adding some grates to the windows.
And people with electronic garage door openers are at risk for "fishing" that takes just a few minutes. Here's a short video about that and what do do about it:

I'm also reinforcing all the doors with steel that attaches to the frames so they can't kick the door down. https://www.amazon.com/Door-Armor-MAX-Complete-Reinforcement/dp/B01GWF2R70/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1UNS0UDU06ZIZ&keywords=door+armor&qid=1679189255&sprefix=door+armor%2Caps%2C177&sr=8-3

Honestly if shtf my concern is the number of windows we have. Grates on windows hey 🤔
Only the ones easily accessible.
