Most people that work more than part time/minimum wage. It's not just income tax, but everything added up. I forget but after all the taxes on taxes, then include things that aren't taxes but fees (e.g. car registration), it's more like the combined tax rate is 85% or something like that.
SS and Medicare are 7.65%, but your employer matches which could be more pay so.. 15.3%, we paid 10% income tax, sales tax is 9.75% (7% food) Property taxes are at least 10%, taxes on gas, taxes on phone, taxes on internet, taxes on water, taxes on energy, any license, etc, etc... Even flat rate like google fiber or metro pcs, the taxes are just built in.
