This, exactly. Yet evangelicals continue to support zionism as a direct result of their false belief in dispensationalism and a pretrib eschatology (both modern interpretations, not historical christianity). Israel was planning on putting Christians in prison (supposedly not doing it now), but it has been illegal to proselytize for Christ in Israel my whole life.
