I got the end of my nose bitten off by a horse, once upon a time, and it took a good many seconds for the bleeding to be really evident. Same thing for when I got a nasty gash on my skull (it took about 50 years for the scar to fade away). Blood will seep and get sponged up by clothes and the person looked like they were wearing layered clothing, which will further delay the seeping.
