Soul is half out is a sorta sensible assertion...I have been around many. Their soul is still there but if you look in their eyes, it's like seeing a child crying in a cage. The demons are in them and they're trapped.

I know exactly what you meant. Even when i was young I got the same vibe about these type of people and never could pinpoint the reason for that feeling but I'm learning more and more as I get older.
