Quite so. The point is that water is that far down, it is likely to be present all the way to there, including shallower. The thinking is that hydrocarbons could be created at depth and then migrate upwards, in the reverse of water migrating downwards.
So oil produced at say 100miles down, percolates up to 5,6,7 miles depth, and all the way to surface seepages in some places.
I would assume some sort of Fischer Tropsch type process high pressure high temperature water and carbon would create hydrocarbons. Makes sense that oil would float up and water down as oil will float on top of water.
Almost like a convection system. We all know that oil and water dont mix and that oil will float on top of the heavier water. So as the water percolates down and creates oil on the way, the oil is displaced and floats up to replace the water. Like a giant lava lamp only oil and water instead of oil and wax.
Lol how do you know thats the lowest anyone has ever drilled? The DS/MIL arent going to be public about how far they've explored the earth secrets...especially with possibly alien tech or whatever.
320 miles? Deepest oil drilled currently is 40,230 ft so about 8 miles. Hard to imagine digging 39X farther down anytime soon.

Also oil would probably act as lubricant for plate techtonics to grind more smoothly. I’m not geologist but would make sense to me.
