The Kennedy's were a good family except for Senator Ted Kennedy whom I think was one of the Swamp. They are/were all Democrats but leaned moderate to conservative I believe. So I don't know how that would work out. Unless you mean VP with Biden.

It's how the presidential elections worked for a time. Runner up becomes VP, regardless of party affiliation. There are flaws, obviously, but I dislike the two-party system where I respect but purposely vote against Democrats who have integrity.
