Majority of cops don't know sh1t. So it's no surprise they push the narrative. Great example in NSW Australia you could get a medical certificate to claim you don't need a mask (due to health history, including psychological). OR a stat dec, which is a paper signed by cops.

I went to a cop station for this reason while the overweight admin kept claiming I needed to wear a mask. (I knew I was within my rights as per their website "rules".). I had family ask if I mention who I was (related to cops who held the line / NOW lost their job) and I said NO, I shouldn't have to.

Of course I got nowhere but kept reporting it as high as I could go to have a female cop tell me they're following the website rules. And what did I email? Attached highlighted rules showing people can get a stat dec instead of Dr certificate as per their website.
