I'm leaning towards the mask theory lately. There's a TED talk with a gal who made (still makes?) these masks for the government and she's done it along with her late husband for decades.
They seem to be a very realistic latex with qualities that help the mask hold and retain its shape kind of like how a Stretch Armstrong always goes back to its original form.
Here's an example:

Stretch Armstrong was a terrible toy. Fun for ten seconds then it never gets played with again.
Thats like 90% of toys. Just a means to infect the earth with plastic.
I always liked toys that actually "do stuff" like remote control cars or nerf guns. Action figures just sit there and are boring as F.
I had Gi Joes until I was about 6. We had a shitload of fun with the little green army men though. I dont know if you ever saw Fridays back in the early 80s. Its where Kramer from Seinfeld got his start. It was like SNL.
Anyway Kramer did a bit where he played this 8 year old setting up his army men in elaborate battle scenes and then blowing it all up
Yea that was me. Firecrackers, gas and matches, golf club haha. We would use our bike tires to grind the heads down on some for battlefield casualties lol.
