One can make anyone "behave" through violence. That doesn't make it virtuous.
Did you actually beat your children with rods? (doesn't that sound a little ridiculous? Hitting children with rods?) If you didn't hit your children with rods, why are you appealing to the Bible to justify hitting them with anything else?
This verse from the Old Testament is not talking about a beatin' rod. There are many types of rods in the Bible.
Proverbs 13:24 KJV
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
I spanked my kids and we could take any of them anywhere...they knew how to behave...
I have several badly behaved grandchildren that have not been spanked and behave terribly at home and in public...not fun to be around...
