Since you have an issue with it, why don’t you do a word study on scriptural discipline? You think it means violence. Correction is the goal done because of love.
I hate to break it to all the formerly abused children on here who grew up fearing their fathers, but some of us didn't grow up fearing our fathers and got all the discipline and correction we ever needed. I couldn't give two shits what your interpretation of Solomon's proverbs are. The abused are gonna abuse and justify their abuse until finally...they don't. Good luck hitting your kids. Spanking a child for anything other than an action that can actually threaten their life, such as walking out into the street, does not count as discipline in my mind. It is, in fact, abuse.

Don't confuse discipline with abuse. They are radically different.
