I agree with you. I would like everyone to just accept what they are and not need either special operations or special laws to live their lives. However, if, say, I had a strange growth protruding from my forehead I think I would opt for an operation so I can't claim to be consistent.

As for "... we've been so welcoming to all," I think that goes back a long way. I seem to recall that when Muhammad and his followers were being persecuted they fled to Christian Abyssinia (now called Ethiopia) because they knew they would be safe there.
