The British monarchy tried to enslave the colonies with the chains of a tyrannical government, and failed.
I think that our current government thought they had us already enslaved and helpless. They were wrong, but it was very close to being true. Thank God that we had a few patriots that stepped in to wake us up just in time.
The Stamp Act of 1765 is generally regarded as the seed that grew into the Revolution. It took 10 years until the first shots were fired at Lexington and Concorde. During that 10 years there was a growing resentment towards the Crown. Even so at the dawn of the Revolution there were still a great many who supported England.
I liken the election of Donald Trump in November of 2016 as our Stamp Act moment.
It took 6 long years of war from those first shots to the Siege of Yorktown and two more until the Treaty of Paris. Lets hope we can end this on a less destructive note. And soon.
Nice comparison!
When power is abused so tyrannically, by Gods law it creates a necessary reaction wherein beautiful things bloom (The constitution of the USA)
