There’s quite a few groups who’d potentially stand to benefit.
One being the obvious suspects. DS and Co.
Though I may catch flack for the suggestion there is some incentive for the Religious to seek to obscure and destroy History. Out of their own will and free of DS manipulation.
Not only because it may contradict their chosen religious texts. But the political, economic, and social benefits enjoyed by Religious Leaders and Religious Institutions could potentially be threatened if too much contradictory information is discovered.
Same would go for Secular Science and History. If they believed that far too much of what they we’re discovering may have benefited the Religious and called their own beliefs into question they may have been incentivized to take action.
There’d also be Corporate Interests to consider separate from any DS affiliated motivations. If they had dug them up on land they wanted to mine or develop. There’d be the financial incentive to ensure any evidence that may prevent the development of the land vanished.
People are capable of being shitty without needing to be manipulated by shadowy groups and secret societies. For those societies and groups own ends.

The idea that Christianity is not the one true religion would be a bitter red pill for too many. Myths and legends get rewritten all the time throughout history, and Christianity is only one of many of these rewrites.
As an aside, I believe the only reason Christianity gets attacked is because it is a rallying point for whites and other non-muslims and non-jews, rather than because of any actual religious beliefs.
