It's a sometime thing. You need to get iodized salt. It is probably possible to get the iodine compound separately, but I don't know which alkaline metal salt it would be.
I just use sea salt and Lugols. Lugols iodine is cheap and a single bottle lasts at least 6 or 8 months at 3 drops a day. Relying on salt for your iodine imo isnt smart. Too much salt is bad and probably the only health advice the establishment has ever given thats factual. (As they load up all our processed foods with copious amounts.)
Better answer. I agree. I don't take iodine as a regular thing, so it wouldn't occur to me to rely on table salt. Too much iodine, and you notice a rather sludgy feeling in the body. Not comfortable. I once ate crab that must have been high in iodine and wound up feeling like my blood was sewage. I concluded I must have become allergic to crab and swore it off for several years. Then I had a body scan using radio-iodine. When they injected it, I felt the same sensation. Hurrah! I could eat crab again. (The local Dungeness crab is the best in the world.)
