Posted in the general discussion, but I think this deserves it's own post.
So, I was listening to Clownfish TV's (pop culture commentators that has a good feel on the culture wars) recent episode discussing the mess between DeSantis and Disney, when one of the hosts mentioned, briefly, that "right-wingers" are now attacking anime on social media.
This is surprising news for me, so I want some evidence if this is true and what is going on, because I have a feeling that there is more to this beneath the social media surface that might negatively impact our GreatAwakening.
Nothing turned up so far when I searched YouTube and Truth Social was equally quiet on that front, so I was wondering if it was a hoax.
I have seen AOC and other chant to push Alphabet Rights in Japan and note anime is objectifying women and is outright sexist.
But right leaning attacks? They've been present since early days, but I have not seen any growth within it.
And while anime does have a bit of of gayness (usually contained to subgenres, not in general) it and Japan in general keep giving the alphabet mafia the middle finger. Twitter was full of raging retards whining that anime artists just block them instead of catering to their demands.
For the most part true, that started happening after years of their brigading and forcing artists to appologize. After a while they too began to fuck off against the woke brigade.
I am not huge on anime, but I am adamant about letting people make things they choose to make in the artistic realm. It is just wild we live in a time where if you make a sexually charged character in a bikini it is automatically "based." While making a grotesque (I mean roach killing ugly) woman, it's automatically "woke." Even if the latter was chosen actively and the former forced.
And women are "objectified" in anime only in terms that the artists know that their actual paying audience is made of people from both sexes that want to see attractive characters. Uggo characters mostly exist for laughs they're rarely a main character. The "we demand representation" crowd aren't the ones paying the bills and the anime creators know that.
Ultimately true, but ugly characters are more than humor, they can be used to tell story of tragedy through their eyes, and being playable in competitive gaming adds a dash of humiliation. Though there is a reason China forced Blizzard, for example, to make more kinds of elves to be played with damn near every expansion. But forgo races that were often a staple to their factions in World of Warcraft. The most played races in the top MMOs are very sexually charged and pretty.
I personally want more ugly characters, simple fact that it is because it adds more options. We often have no problem playing monsters, and ugly men. But I do not want more to "fill a void" of representation that doesn't exist. So it is just wild that you can WANT to honestly make an ugly character, but forever be "woke" in the process.
