This is why calling liberals “bleeding hearts” or “treehuggers” never worked because those both sound good to them, even if it’s intended to be condescending. Same as ironically saying “the tolerant Left”. That doesn’t work because they still hear the word “tolerant” and it’s like a head pat for them. And sarcasm online doesn’t really translate. Better to call them “miserable Liberals” because most of them want to self-identify as fun-loving, happy, kind. Nobody likes the “miserable” person. “Cruel liberal” is another one that irritates them, because they are not used to being called “cruel”.
