I didn't put it together that the stunned faces had anything to do with the grim reaper until someone said it here though.

what the video does not show is just before the grim reaper walked past the doorway I walked past dressed only from the waist up. The shock and gaping mouths of everyone was a reaction to their disbelief that what they saw did not belong to a horse.
