I am thinking she has a damaged view of relationships and cannot be in any long-term situation with a man due to the abusive situation with her father and his murder. Is this why she adopted two black children? That is, children who would need her and who she could be a savior and banner carrier for?

Is this why she allowed her adopted son to be a girl rather than a boy?

It's all messed up.
