Devil's advocate: they often use stock photos to accompany current stories, especially if the event hasn't happened yet, and the story is about what's going to happen. We still have a few days for it to actually expire.
But this skepticism is the right approach. Let's see what happens.
Look at the size of the crowd in the bottom article. These photos were taken recently.
Michael Yon seems to be giving updates multiple times daily as well.
Laziness is usually the answer.
