Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Does anyone have any recommendations for free family Bible studies for home? Nothing for little children, but more appropriate for a 15 year old daughter. I'm in Japan and we live nowhere near any decent churches as the ones in our town are basically for elderly. I try to do what my wife and I call "pajama church" on Sundays.
You are so fortunate to live in Japan. It is such a beautiful country! Congrats!
I'll be more fortunate if this LGBTQP educational implementation bill doesn't pass. My J-wife said that there was a push for this bill in order to get the G7 summit approved for Hiroshima. As you may know, Japan is the only G7 country that does not allow gay marriage. We hope this won't pass. It's bad enough that I have to put up with global warming messages in the English textbook, but if they start putting trannies into the textbooks, that would be even bigger cringe for me. Plus I'd lose my job if I voiced displeasure with it.
My brothers live there for 30 years. My mom live there for 10, and my daughter live there for 1.
It’s really a better place to live in America right now. Enjoy it while you can.
That's what I hear. I haven't seen my family in over 11 years. The last time I went to America was just for one week, on business, in 2016. that was before the election, before the moonbats went psycho. Before all of this "preferred pronouns" BS. I'm told that I won't even recognize my own country anymore. I am disconnected with American culture and I don't think I miss it. I do want to see family again, but I have no money for that and I know it's going to disillusion me greatly. Hopefully the world will be in a better place in the next year or two!
As a great starting point, the Bible Project.
We used this a whole bunch when the kids were in their teens. Great for watching them as a part of a home service or home prayer/study meeting.
The lessons/clips are short, upbeat, catchy, don't require long periods of concentration. Watching 2 or 3 of them in a session is pretty easy. Ideal for a 15-year old and up, imo.

Best short-study video series I've ever seen. Also, not too doctrine focused, or narrow. Great stuff.
Ps where you at, Steve?

Thanks fren! (And fellow Japanfag!) I'm in Gunma Prefecture.
Happy memories of Gunma. Took my family to visit a friend who lived with his parents in the countryside, with two small kids similar in age to ours.
Happy memories. Good luck with the Bible study.
