Elon has censored and supressed tweets at the request of the Turkish government, in which, he argues it is better than to have the platform removed in its entirety, as Turkish government would prohibit access to its citizens, as the country’s election is coming up.
He advised that he will release the emails between him and the Turkish government soon.
So, it's ok if a govt threatens a platform. I dare say, that was most likely the tactic used by the U.S. Govt, and Elon's trying to save face regarding Turkey's request.
Right before an election too. Having the government deplatform Twitter would have been a much better, more insightful alternative for the voters to become awakened to the lengths of manipulation their government will resort to..
But censoring and suppressing tweets at the government’s behest, then not even disclosing this to Turkish users or anyone, yet promoting the platform as a free-speech safe haven.. is disingenuous to say the least.
