IF you skip the vaccines (which damages them very seriously and permanently), and you are attentive enough to learn the needs of a young child the crying is quite limited and manageable, in my experience.
Jab them so they are in low level distress - they will cry a lot.
Fail to change them, breast feed them (2.5 years), keep them at the right temperature, and implement a very regular routine, and you will have a crying kid.
God forbid you are stupid and show them aggression or anything less than gentle soothing love, or leave them alone when they are awake, and you WILL be made to suffer with endless crying.
It's tough at time, but you can make it relatively peaceful if you are a disciplined and caring parent who properly understands that you are now a servant to the child. (Up to age 3 roughly speaking).

“Caring parent” seems to be the problem here.
You are quite right. It's hunger, tiredness, or dirty diaper. It's not all that hard to find out why a baby is crying.
