Major Australian bank quietly stops handling cash at some branches | Customers of one of Australia’s biggest banks will no longer be able to access cash at the counters of certain branches in the country.
... “Our customers are changing how they bank with more than a 50 per cent decline in in branch transactions across ANZ over the past four years. Only eight per cent of our customers solely rely on branches for their everyday banking needs, with the majority preferring online and mobile banking methods. ...”
To fight CBDC, more of us have to be willing to be "inconvenienced" by using cash and cheques. If we willingly put our head into the noose, we can hardly then complain when they tighten it.
I can tell you that its not just ANZ - the number of ATMs has drastically reduced over the past 3-4 years to the point where we don't find ATMs in many locations we were used to (or only some out of network ATMs). Also, withdrawing cash at the branches in other banks has become painful. First you have to make appointment as "they dont keep much cash on hand". Then they ask you a ton of questions saying "its just to make sure people are not getting scammed". Going to the branch to withdraw cash is really uncomfortable these days.
