You might want to look into what communism means. There is Trotskyism which is what most Westerners think is Communism, with all the promotion of pedo/sexual perversion and breakdown of family , and disappearing of people, that is favored by the 'commies' in the Demonrat party - this faction believes in breaking down societies.
Then other later forms, more after protecting borders, preserving families, roading and social housing etc. This form grew from Stalin, who led the USSR through WW2. And yes, many see him as a hero, just as the Anglos see Churchill.
One cannot describe current Russia as communist, although there are those that still believe in it. One hears that Putin is communist, while others say he is an Oligarch, and other say he is Fascistic. Shills cannot make up their minds on this score. Putin is a centrist, by USA 90s standards.
Similarly, China has a separation like that too, between the hardliner CPC and the Shanghai Corporation which is certainly more 'capitalist'.
My point is that the "ideology of communism" is not a specific enough term. Which communism are you referring to?
I am old school and refer to Communism as from the 60's, 70's, and 80's mainly. I see your point and thank you for some clarification on it, but to me Communism is Communism since the day it was introduced to me. So I guess it is more the breaking down of societies, like in the first paragraph of your explanation.
I don't get into trying to understand some people who are trying to take down America, I will most time call it all Communism, even when it isn't. It makes my life more simple to understand.
