Story is from March but they reported it on my morning local news so it was the first I'd heard of it. HISD is the largest school district in Texas. Apparently the TEA has taken over school districts in Texas 7 times since 2000. Is this a case of a snake eating its own tail? I don't know what's worse, the woke school board or the woke 3-letter agency grabbing up power. I'm on my way out the door but plan on looking into this more
Based on what I remember of this. The District repeatedly failed to hit the standards the TEA set. The School District Board was warned time and time again that they weren’t meeting minimum standards and if they refused to act. Then the State would.
I seem to recall the Board finally started implementing changes after the deadline set by the TEA had passed. And were whining to the media that they were meeting standards now but the State was still taking over. After years of them ignoring the warnings and the final deadline.
That and the local Teachers Union and a couple local Non-profit education groups were opposed to the takeover.
