To be clear, I would have said nothing if the original guy wasn't pushing literal torture as the only correct punishment.

I suppose I should have been more clear on my position regarding the correct way to handle these people instead of only pointing out my disagreement, which I can see could appear as if I'm excusing or being lenient.
