Lots of good suggestions. I'll add another: voice acting. Most auditions are not even in-person, just send a sample recording. It takes a lot of knocking, but eventually the doors open. God bless!
Oh yes, I've even recorded over a minute of a demo reel for that purpose. I haven't recorded the rest because I came to the realization that sparked this post.
