Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I bought an herbal infuser set up, well reviewed and not too expensive, I am psyched, I will be able to dry and infuse the same hour I pick. Hanging herbs are a pretty thing to have in the house, but so much essential oils are lost in that process. Making medicine from the earth is a wonderful senior past time. It is easy on the body and mind.
I'd like to hear more on this too; we're deciding on which "weeds" (lol) to cultivate and extract. Calendula, purpura something or other, yarrow, some other worts, but sure once we have patches of them growing, I agree drying leaves for teas is okay but not useful for all applications. Essential oils seem more potent, especially for the aromatic compounds. Besides soaking in alcohol, I don't know a whole lot yet...
Wrong words. It's called a "pastime" because it passes the time. (Originally from the French passe-temps.)
you are correct, that was sloppy writing on my part.
Hey, we all need a little a little slop some time. Makes life fun ❤️🤗
What are a few good resources to begin learning how to make your own essential oils? I've been growing lavender and mint because I love the scents. Never really considered making essential oils from my plants before.
Now that Cannibis has become "out of the closet", there are extractors and infusion makers to choose from, for making the tinctures and oils, they can be used for all leafy and flowery herbs, not just cannabis. The one I bought was under a 100 dollars' It is for small personal use. It will come with instructions, but the basics are EVO, (extra virgin olive oil) and heat. WIth these kits it will just be measure herb, measure oil, and push buttons. A friend of mine makes this wonderful oil for pain, it even works on nerve pain, she gets St Johnswort flowers , wild harvests, it grows like crazy in waste places and along roads and sunny ditches She cuts it up and puts it in jars, adds the extra virgin olive oil, and puts it in a sunny window for the summer. The oil turns red, when it is ready. It's great stuff, so no need for a machine.
