Solar and wind can work great on a small scale, just the way you use it. I have even seen small scale backyard wind turbines used for the same purpose. I think the problem most people have here is that the global warming kooks want to force people entirely reliant on solar and wind. Or to have massive solar farms like the big one in Nevada. I have always liked the idea you put forth of having personal energy independence.
