I wish they did more to make it merit-based, like removing legacy and donor admissions. I remember seeing a stat that said only 57% of white admissions into Harvard were based on merit.
Take government funding (which also includes influence) and lending out of education and all the problems will solve themselves.
Churches and private groups originally started virtually every historically great educational institution (and hospital) then were run out by government and / or commies.
