I had a drinking phase when I was sent to the UK at 18 years old for my first USAF assignment. I outgrew it, but did pick up one good lesson - if I'm going to drink it is not going to be cheap swill.
I have 12-14 beers a year, alternating between Guinness and a Cherry Lambic. One each on Saturdays when I watch my one vice I have left - a certain college football team. I gave up watching NFL during the kneeling, and MLB once Cal Ripken and Nolan Ryan retired. Never liked basketball or hockey. I used to have college football season tickets for 10 years, and that was my daddy/daughter bonding time while she was growing up.
I remember one time Chik-Fil-A sponsored a game and put free chicken sandwich coupons on every seat. She was about 11 or 12yo and collected 30-40 coupons from the floor after the game so I could grab lunch at work. I gave them away after eating like 20 - it got old after a few weeks but it was nice of her.
Now I just watch those games from my recliner with one of my beers. I still have one of the lambics in my fridge from last year.
Side note - my daughter and someone whom I expect will be her fiance are coming out to TX this fall to visit and take me to a game, and we are sitting where our tickets used to be. First game in almost 10 years - she is 27 now. Time goes by quickly.
Enjoy that game dad!!! I love that story of the coupons-- I lost my dad Christmas day- miss him tons especially when I think about all the great dad stuff he did with me--
Sorry to hear that! It is tough enough losing someone but then when it happens on a day like Christmas it has to be incredibly tough.
I have a niece that was born on 9/11/01. It is kind of reverse, but in both cases the family ends up being reminded of bad/sad thoughts every year on that day.
Yeah it sure sucks-- but mom and dad left behind 8 Patriots, and the holidays have more meaning than ever now-26 neices and nephews fill my heart daily!
