I never do this. But recently it feels like the whole world is falling all over me. My husband had a bunch of strokes last year which have rendered him disabled in several ways, one of the most prevalent being dementia/ amnesia. Think 50 First Dates. Because of that, i cant work. I have to be here for him most hours of the day. We've had no luck so far with disability, and now the hospital is after us for what his insurance didn't cover. Even paying our monthly bills is getting near impossible. So i guess I'm asking, if anyone has a moment, could you please put a prayer in for us? Life is tough already. It seems like it's worse every day. He's a ghost of the man I once knew, and now I have very little ability to pay for our very humble life. Not praying for a million bucks, just a chance to stay in the home we raised our kids and got married in, and the ability to keep the lights on. Thank you, and God bless.

SSI is set up like a game to intentionally frustrate people so that people don't see it as free easy money. Here's how to play.
Apply as soon as you get anything from a doctor saying the person is disabled. You will be denied. Damn near everybody gets denied the first time. And it takes months. 12 months; 13 months - that's normal.
As soon as you receive the denial apply again immediately. That very day if you can. If you wait too long you are starting that first year all over. You will be denied again but this time it'll take about a month.
Then get a lawyer and apply again as soon as possible. There are lawyers who specialize in this. They will take their percentage but they will get you a pay out going back to when you first applied.
There is a difference between SSD and SSI. SSD is based on work credits and SSI is based on finances and long-term disability.
