That was an awesome day wasn’t it? Did we ever figure out who owned the property the stones were on?
It was donated to the County. I've since read that the County gave it back to the farmer who owned it originally. No time capsule underneath either.
Public info on who owns property, anyone know how to research it and provide an answer? I know it’s public info, but I don’t know how to find out.
You'll want to contact the Register of Deeds office and the Clerk of Superior Court office for the county the land is in.
Land records include documents such as deeds, wills, mortgages, court orders, devorces, and liens. If you want to fully understand the legal status of a parcel of land, you need to search records in both offices.
Thanks
Property records are handled by counties, I'll search "[county name] property search" or "[county name] property map" depending on what I'm looking for. Here's the entry for the parcel on Elbert County's property records - https://qpublic.schneidercorp.com/Application.aspx?AppID=667&LayerID=11830&PageTypeID=4&PageID=5728&Q=1776874121&KeyValue=027++++018
It was granted to some Wayne Mullenix after the explosion by the Elbert County Board of Commissioners.
Thanks
