Yes. That is not the issue with money backed gold. There is NOTHING wrong with money backed gold. The PROBLEM is using only one thing (or even just a couple things), relying on it. It becomes a security risk, as shown in a thousand examples of controlled economies in history.
The Golden Rule
If a society relies on gold, then the person who has all the gold makes the rules. This is called "hording" and was the method by which numerous societies in the past were destroyed. The Roman Empire (Western branch) was destroyed not by "the barbarians," but by hording silver through real estate fuckery. Because the populace (not the aristocracy) relied on silver to do everything, shutting down silver caused the economy to crash.
When you start to dig in, you find that all former societies had similar issues. They were destroyed from the inside by Money Manipulation. Guess who was there manipulating the money?
As long as it's simple, secure and fast.
