History would teach you. That cannon fodder was the typical use of Mercenary Formations. They were expendable Troops. And the more that died. The less you had to pay. And your citizens generally wouldn’t give a crap about foreigners dying in place of their loved ones.
Historically the only real exceptions to the cannon fodder rule was in the case of either highly trained, and or highly skilled and reputable units. As Hiring them generally came with a larger Price Tag. Which correspondingly made them more valuable. Which meant commanders were usually more cautious with how they spent their lives.
And barring a few exceptions. Most of the people who went over to Ukraine. Probably weren’t overly skilled or trained.
