There's a difference between asking forgiveness and repentance. There are narcissists who will plead for forgiveness when confronted with consequences but who don't actually mean it. All they care about is avoiding paying the piper. Even if you could somehow fool people as some horrible rapist, you can't fool God. He knows the heart.
Besides, I can't think of many examples where there's someone who fits that description in this hypothetical scenario of yours. Can you name me any?
Show me one person who raped and murdered children and then sincerely turned their heart over to God in the end. "Hell must be pretty empty". Not at all. It's actually filled to the brim.
The bible says all you have to do is confess your sins and you will be forgiven. It doesnt even say that you have to feel bad about it, just to confess. A narcissistic kid diddler would probably enjoy confessing all his wrong doings.
No the Bible says you need to repent as well. Repentance is not mere profession of your lips. It's genuine sorrow and turning away from sin in your heart. If you repent you'll inevitably confess but just because you confess doesn't mean you necessarily have repented. All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares.
"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord" -Acts 3:19
"I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus." -Acts 20:21
