I heard something a little different about how the story came out. I can imagine it is true, but who knows. I heard because evacuations were required as they didn't know what the substance was right away and the evacuations would have been talked about by those evacuated, they decided to break the story instead of having it delayed over the weekend and get it out in the open. Like I said, that is what I heard, true? I don't know.
