You only need to read through the entire Bible, and especially the New Testament, to know that the Catholic church is based on distortion of scripture, and more significantly, the desire of men to be in positions of power. God is the power, Jesus is the way. No works, rituals, etc., will result in your salvation; only faith in Christ.
And Mary’s perpetual virginity, and made the sign of the cross and kept many other sacraments. IIRC roughly in the 50’s is when the denominations started to further fracture
The post reformation was already beginning to coalesce back into one faith because the similarities were so profound and the reformation was largely accepted as having been occurred.
