The idea of the wood holly as 'foresight' is due to the magician as prophet of future events. The concept is what we term 'Druidic'. See Queen Elizabeth as Head Druid Priestess.
The holly, being conduit and magician as conductor, would be of none effect in the hands of the so-called non-adept.
Like an amateur trying to make a home movie as influencer. The magic is weak.
