Not really. Tornadoes in NC usually are like this. This one went north down I95 and 301 areas. 301 is the old road I95 replaced. This tornado dropped down in two counties. I've been interested in storms a long time and it's not unusual for a storm to have rotation. I spotted this on the radar long before I got alerts.
Rotation. That's the problem here. It looks like the building was smooshed up in one direction and the debris field goes in the opposite direction. What sort of tornado does that?
It was an EF3 tornado. I'm not an expert on tornadoes. WRAL in Raleigh NC has an excellent weather department. A former meteorologist Greg Fishel used to explain the weather. I remember him talking about rotation in thunderstorms. It was a joy learning from him.
