God commanded Israel to wipe out the Canaanites and all of their idols and such.
Israel decided, instead, to adopt all of the religious customs of the Canaanites.
So God drove Israel out of their homeland, promising never to return them until they remember the covenant and stop worshiping the false idols.
The Bible is very instructive. It's too bad people don't take it at face value. There really are ridiculous evils out there, and the people of Israel are not pure. Our only hope is Christ.
I'm not so sure it was Israel that adopted the customs of the Canaanites.
That's Edom. Who now appear in our lives pretending to be Israel.
Israel is spending all its time and money fleeing the fakers.
Fled Egypt. Some went west, ending up in Britain. Some spread out northwards, populating northern Europe.
At least that's what I'm piecing together.
It helps that there are linguistic markers that connect languages like Arabic, Egyptian, Hebrew with the Celtic languages...and possibly with English and French as well.

Israel did not finish the genocide that God commanded.
When God commands, it must be fulfilled. One day we will have to finish it.
