I had heard rumors years ago that this was the case. Don't remember where. But when Russia invaded and all the elites sided with Ukraine immediately, i immediately remembered hearing than and went hmmm.

They werent even rumors. All "old news" about ukraine was always derogatory. Everyone accepted that they were one of the most corrupt countries on earth. Then russia invaded and suddenly they're New Jerusalem
