or they could be hyperdimensional. Infinitely smarter than us, like comparing humans to insects. With their technology they would never have to show themselves and could always make sure the population never found out about them. They don't even have to come from a physical location in space, they could have always been here since they are outside the realm of time

Those who are rooting for death to prevail constantly deploy distractions tempting people to focus their attention on things that have no survival value during The Storm; things that are safe harbor, peace time luxuries.
