If you believe in alien life being possible or not that’s a separate topic from the fact that the exotic technology does exist. But I think is self explanatory and the two are related. Some folks are just terrified that their world view painted by religious doctrine would collapse after the evidence is made public that earth has been visited by beings from other worlds and perhaps even dimensions. People are going to be very shocked one way or another, and sadly some folks will deny deny until the evidence smacks them in the face and then they have no other choice but to accept it continue to deny as a defense mechanism.
When even Chuck Schumer is pushing for disclosure, something has to be off. But you nailed the reason- disclosure would shake people up. It is the distraction; and probably the last card the cabal can play to any effect. And we're almost there.

Keep your options open. Dont invest everything into something you cant possibly prove the truth of one way or the other.
