Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
The more I research the more I conclude that “everything’s f****ed.” Meaning, almost everything is inverted, corrupted, reversed, and so on. Often this is simply to make a profit, but it can also affect our health and spirituality.
I invite you to ask about anything and I’ll try to demonstrate this theory. If you have the answer to someone else’s question, please post.
Example question: Mainstream says oatmeal is a healthy breakfast. (I wrote most of this before seeing another comment about oatmeal here.)
Response: It could be. What few people know is that oatmeal needs to be soaked for at least overnight. How is anyone supposed to know this when the label doesn’t mention soaking at all? Ideally it’s not just a water soak but fermentation by lactobacilli. 2 tablespoons of whey (from yoghurt, not whey protein) will start the fermentation process. (Most of this info is from Nourishing Traditions cookbook.)
Oftentimes, oats are sprayed with glyphosate to desiccate them before harvest. There is debate over just how damaging glyphosate is, but obviously this herbicide is not a vital part of a healthy diet. Choose organic oats to greatly reduce your exposure.
Eating breakfast may not even be the best thing to do. Perhaps an intermittent fasting schedule would be better, depending on your activity level.
This one was not an outright flip, but a lie by omission of key details. Like memes, the most effective lies are based on truth. Our laziness may have played a role too.
TL;DR Oatmeal is best soaked overnight with a bit a whey added. I think it tastes better that way.
I agree, but I cannot do that anymore, due to a condition I acquired from chronic Lyme. I have been eating low histamine foods for 5 months, and any food that sits or starts fermenting is a no no, as it grows histamine as it ages. Its a condition that is called Mast Cell Reactive Syndrome, and it sucks. I buy the whole rolled organic oats in bulk, and simmer them with fresh fruit, then add a lump of butter and a bit of maple syrup. its like eating a bowl of warm wet cookies, better tasting than it sounds. Glyphosates are poison, spending that xtra for organic, imo, is worth it.
Pasteuised Milk
Holy sh*t, talking about oatmeal gets my goat. I was suffering from gout and I tried everything I possibly could. Gave up meat. Gave up alcohol. Reduced carbs to bare minimum. But instead switched to oatmeal. I would get the raw oats and make myself a small oatmeal and enjoyed it, given that I had given up everything else.
And, darn it if the gout didnt come back and hit me with a vengeance. Doctor was baffled. (I am sure he thought I was still putting away some red meat daily, they way he looked at me).
Thats when it hit me - Oatmeal. Its FULL of carbs!! That was the culprit. So what if it had tons of fibre, the cabs undid everything.
I gave up oatmeal that day and never looked back. I enjoy red meat in moderation, low carbs, no sugar or alcohol, and drip lime + soda drink daily, and never felt better!
Black cherry juice, it comes in a concentrate, something about black cherries that helps dissolve those crystals that accumulate in the joints. Ouch!
Yep I drink that too! If you add lime and soda to it it's actually yummy too!
Do you soak it in water, milk or beer for best results?
Do you boil it next day or eat raw?
1/3 cup oats, steel cut aka Coach's Oats, it's what costco has
1 cup water, may vary for other kinds of oats
1 tbsp whey, yoghurt, kefir, or buttermilk, can substitute lemon juice or vinegar
1/8 tsp salt
soak overnight
bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer until it cooks, about 5 minutes
Note: I do not eat oatmeal too often, less than once a week, nor do I claim this is the best recipe.
