Yep, back in the 70's environmentalist sued the state of Washington, I believe, because the State wanted to dam a river to generate electricity. Well, a lawsuit ensued and the only reason the dam was not built was because it would cause irrevocable harm to the snail darter that lived in the river. Type in snail darter and dam in a Google search and see what comes up.
