Club-based programs (incorporates age group all the way through Olympic athletes). In the USA these groups are under USAA swimming but there is also YMCA swimmers (affiliated with USAA) but often with their own competitions. USAA swimming already condemned trans males swimming with females
College-based swimming is governed by the NCAA. And that is where Lia Thomas swam to place first. we all know how woke colleges are. Which means they will continue to allow trans males to swim in their competitions for now. So Lia Thomas is no longer a college swimmer but that doesnβt mean another one wonβt come along
Elite swimmers can come from either two of the above groups. However most elite swimmers can swim both with a club and a college although not all do. These elite swimmers go on to swim at Worlds, the Pan Pacifica and even the Olympics. This is the governing body that just banned trans males from competing
But if I am understanding this correctly; The college tier feeds the national competitive tier feeds the world competitive tier (Olympic athletics being the best athletes and most money/prestige).
Athletics runs on money and prestige. They will either have to backpedal or the college athletics of the US will collapse as their process no longer brings the best eligible competitors to the arena to participate in the highest levels of worldwide competition in any given sport.
Without sports, and with Americans no longer impressed with college academics or even believing there is a societal necessity or advantage for their educational product, what we're really seeing is the controlled demolition of establishment academia.
There are three separate categories of swimming
