I don't understand this. This is a nothing Burger isn't it? In a way? Because Weiss has already been on the case for a long time and I believe he already had special counsel status.
He did not have special counsel status, but Garland said that he had as much as or more authority than a special counsel.

Personally, I think most of what we are watching is kabuki theatre, and that the direction is clear. Deep state arranging deck chairs on their titanic. White hats have it mapped out, with contingencies.
